Packers kick off 100th season celebration

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The Green Bay Packers are celebrating a century of football this year.

The long-standing history of Packers, gives a glimpse into what the team has withstood over the years.

Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy, says there's one characteristic that has stood test of time; the importance of tradition, "The Packers have a lot of great traditions. So, many great positives and great parts of the organization, but our history and our tradition stand at the top."

Murphy announced their plans for the 100th season celebration Monday.

Some of the planned festivities over the next 16-months include:

  • An interactive traveling exhibit, "Lambeau Field Live."
  • A "The Packers Experience" weekend hosted during training camp.
  • "Legacy," a 10-part documentary series highlighting Packers history.
  • Celebration weekend kicking off the season this September.

"Our motto is, and has been, you only turn 100 once. Y.O.LO." Murphy said.

The team unveiled its official "100 Seasons" logo at the Monday announcement. The logo will also appear stitched to each player's jersey this season.

Looking back over their legacy, Murphy says it's an exciting time for the green and gold, "I think we all understand and appreciate what the Packers have accomplished. We really look forward to the next 16-months, as we celebrate 100 seasons."

The Packers were founded at a meeting on Aug. 11, 1919, playing their first season that year.

This year marks the 100th season, while the team's 100th birthday is next year.
