MANITOWOC (WLUK) -- Hundreds of professional disc golfers will compete on a couple of courses in our area over the weekend at the Silver Cup Pro Tournament.
Friday the competition begins at the Rollin' ridge Disc Golf Course in Reedsville. It will continue Saturday and Sunday at Silver Creek Park in Manitowoc.
"This is the top level of disc golf in the country," said Tournament director Jim Van Lanen.
This competition is drawing athletes from all over the country.
“They’re coming from as far away as Florida, California, Oregon, Alaska, Texas," said Van Lanen. "And it’s really neat to see them making the trip just to Wisconsin, because they know we have some great disc golf course here.”
It's even drawing international athletes. Chris Finn from is from Perth Australia. He said as a kid, the sport came to him.
"There was a course literally about 200 feet from my house in Perth and it was installed when I was probably 8 or 9 years old," said Perth. "I just happened to go past it one day and people were playing as a kid I was like wow what're you doing can I play?"
Tournament director Jim Van Lanen said these professionals can toss a disc over 500 feet.
"It's like throwing it on a string and they know exactly where that disk is going it's amazing," he said.
Spectator can come to all three days of competition free of charge.
