Seymour's Oskey named Miss Basketball

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Seymour's Hailey Oskey has been named Miss Basketball by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

Oskey, who will play collegiately at Green Bay, averaged 18.6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game for the Thunder, who went unbeaten in the Bay Conference and finished 23-2 overall. She also led Seymour to a sectional semifinal.

"There were a ton of good players that got nominated," Oskey said. "Being able to accept the award means a lot.

"I'm really proud of this accomplishment. I never thought I would get it. All my hard work paid off."

Oskey ended her career as Seymour's all-time leading scorer with 1,571 points and led the Thunder to 75 wins in her four years.

Seymour coach Bobby Kuchta said despite Oskey being a scorer, she was always focused on winning.

"She really bought in to what we wanted to do as a team and has been really unselfish," Kuchta said. "If she scores zero points and the team wins she's happy with it, so I'm proud of her for that."

As great as the award is, Oskey wished her team qualified for the state tournament, where she accepted the award on Saturday.

"My team and I are still bummed we're not out there still playing," Oskey said. "I think they're all excited for me to get this. I wish we were still out there playing."
