Opening weekend deer hunting numbers released

(WLUK) – Deer hunters bagged 102,903 deer on the opening weekend of the gun-deer season, down nearly 14,000 deer from 2016.

According to the figures released Tuesday, hunters reported killing 59,142 antlered deer, and 43,761 antlerless deer.

In Northeast Wisconsin, hunters had the most success in Shawano County (3,618) and Waupaca County (3,529).

Marathon County had the highest tally statewide, with 3,671 deer.
