MILWAUKEE (WLUK) -- The future of a Milwaukee treasure is in jeopardy.
The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, better known as "the domes" have been around for more than 120 years.
Countless students have explored different habitats at the botanical garden -- exploring a desert oasis, a tropical jungle and a floral garden all in one spot.
But with the dome's age and lack of repairs, the buildings' condition are beginning to deteriorate.
A parks committee voted Tuesday on a resolution to figure out what's next for the unique buildings.
The committee amended a resolution, which would allow the Department of Parks and Recreation to explore all options for the domes' future, including a full renovation but also a demolition. The department would then present what it believes are the domes' best long-term options.
The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors still needs to vote on the resolution, which will happen in less than two weeks. From there, we'll learn more about what could be in store for the Mitchell Park domes.
