Those willing to brave the crowds for shopping deals are likely putting the finishing touches on their Black Friday plans.

But just how and where will they be making those holiday purchases.

We take a closer look.

The International Shopping Center Industry survey found most people use some sort of combination to shop.

They will shop in stores and online.

The survey found most of the actual sales will happen in the physical store.

Many stores are kicking off deals earlier than before on Thanksgiving day, with retailers like Target, Macy's and Best Buy opening their doors on Turkey Day.

12 percent of shoppers say they would shop on Thanksgiving Day itself.

That translates to more than 38 million people.

How much are people planning to spend on Black Friday?

Nine out of 10 U.S. shoppers will spend an average of $700 this holiday season.

That's up from $677 last year.

How will they divide that money?

More than $574 will be spent on gifts, while $127 will go to holiday-related items.
