Yacht built and christened in Manitowoc
MANITOWOC (WLUK) -- With the swing and then crack of a champagne bottle, the yacht, built by Burger Boat Company in Manitowoc, is ready for cruising.
"From the design concept, all the way to the build, there's a lot that goes into this down to the minute details," said Aaron Cerkas who helped build the boat.
Northland, as she's called, is 103 feet and 6 inches. Burger says the boat is a steel and aluminum expedition-style motor yacht and it's the first steel-hulled yacht built by the company in more than 50 years.
"The vessel has a whole is very, very unique. The central stairway is very unique. It's got a glass staircase. The fishing cockpit on the exterior is really nice and I like the paint job on it," Cerkas said.
He adds, it couldn't be built without a hardworking team.
"I would say 75 to 120 [people]," Cerkas said.
And, it took about two years to build it.
When asked how much this custom-built yacht costs, Burger would not say.
However, after a quick online search, YachtWorld.com popped up. It sells new and used boats and yachts including a few built by Burger.
A 122 foot 2002 Burger costs $8,950,000. A 107 foot 1998 Burger costs $4,880,000. The site does not offer any Burger built after 2002.
"I want to thank all the talented people," said Jim Holmgren.
He's the owner of this yacht.
Once the boat hits the water, it's headed on a world cruise.
While it depends on the size on the boat, Burger says it builds up to three yachts a year.
