Chemical spill in Winnebago Co.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WLUK)-- A 250 gallon container of sodium hydroxide fell off a truck between Claireville Rd. and Clay Rd. on Highway 44 NB/SB.

It happened just after 2:40 p.m. Friday near Oshkosh, closing the highway.

DNR officials were contacted and an out of state Hazard Team was sent to the scene.

Wisconsin State Patrol and Oshkosh Hazmat team helped with the incident.

The highway reopened around 12:30 a.m. this morning.

No injuries were reported and environmental crews will return this week to continue cleaning the scene.
