NEENAH (WLUK) -- Dozens of runners and walkers hit the streets Sunday in an effort to raise awareness for Huntington's disease.

Today in the U.S., there are about 30,000 Americans with symptoms, and more than 200,000 people who are at risk of inheriting the disease.

Volunteers at the event say events such as this can take a tragic event, and make it more positive.

"We have a fun day of music, prizes, walking, running, hanging out, dancing, eating. And all these families are celebrating the loved ones they lost. People here with Huntington's disease are celebrating life. And they're celebrating the hope that there will be a cure someday soon," said Shana Verstegen, event coordinator.

The Team Hope Walk is the organization's largest fundraising event, which takes place in over 100 cities in the U.S.
