VA2K walk raises donations and awareness on homeless veterans
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The Milo C. Huempfner Green Bay VA Clinic held its annual VA2K walk to collect donations for homeless veterans Wednesday.
The mile walk hopes to encourage fitness while accepting donations for homeless veterans of Northeast Wisconsin.
Walkers were asked to donate toiletries and gift cards.
A live band and refreshments greeted donors at the event.
Officials say donating to the program allows them to help more veterans in need.
"Once you're in stable housing you may not have the means to set up that house. So if you have a choice between ramen noodles and shampoo, you're gonna choose the food. So we set you up with all the things you need to establish a house," said primary nurse, Robert Bottom. "It's not a one-time event, it's year-round, so we will have our closet set up whenever there's a need."
Officials say that even though the event is over, they always accept donations at the clinic.
