(WLUK) -- Recent hot temperatures have a lot of people flocking to Great Lakes beaches to cool off.
However, the Great Lakes have proven to pose some dangers for swimmers.
So far in 2020, the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project says 25 people have drowned in the Great Lakes, 13 of those in Lake Michigan.
Since 2010, the GLSRP has tracked 863 Great Lakes' drownings.
“The Great Lakes had several drowning incidents over the 4th of July Holiday weekend,” said Dave Benjamin, GLSRP Executive Director. “And with the warm water temperatures this early in the summer season, I believe we are about to enter a turbulent summer surf season.”
Benjamin says if current wind forecast for Sunday holds true, Lake Michigan will have high and turbulent
If the current wind forecast for Sunday holds true, Lake Michigan will have high and turbulent surf, especially for the south end of the lake. North winds over 20 mph for more than nine hours will have the whole lake moving, Benjamin said.
