Preparations for 'Garden of Lights' season opening underway
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A record 300,000 holiday lights will be dazzling your eye at the Green Bay Botanical Garden.
The 22nd annual Wisconsin Public Service Garden of Lights is preparing to open for guests later this month.
It takes staff and more than a dozen volunteers six weeks to set up the entire show.
While meticulously wrapping tree branches and tightening thousands of zip ties may seem like a lot of work, those who do, say they're glad to see how much of a family tradition it has become.
"It's interesting to see the little kids that came out 10-15 years ago, now they're grown up and they're getting engaged out here. So yeah, time has changed a bit, and it's good to see people coming back," said facilities and maintenance coordinator, Dave Barkow.
The Garden of Lights opens for the season on the day after Thanksgiving, lighting up the night on weekends through the end of the year.
