DE PERE (WLUK) -- De Pere police say a man was found dead on the shore of the Fox River Thursday evening. They are treating the death as suspicious.

The man was in his 50s. A coroner on the scene says he was in the water for about 12 hours.

Police say they were able to identify the man, and they know he's had "prior run-ins" with law enforcement. Police wouldn't say with what law enforcement or what the "run-ins" were.

There were no "self-inflicted wounds" found on the man's body, according to officials.

There was a heavy police presence on the Fox River trail between the 5.5 and 5.6 mile markers at around 6 p.m.

This is a developing story, check back in for updates.
