GREEN BAY (WLUK) – The attorney for Cassie Nygren wants her trial for the drug overdose death of a pregnant Allouez woman moved from Brown County due to pre-trial publicity.

Nygren and her boyfriend, Shawn Gray, face multiple charges for the June death of Jennifer Skeen, who died of a fentanyl overdose.

She pleaded not guilty Monday to the ten charges, including reckless homicide, for allegedly delivering the drugs. No trial date has been set.

Nygren is the daughter of State Rep. John Nygren, who regularly discusses her struggle with drugs. It has prompted him to sponsor numerous laws aimed at combating the opioid epidemic.

The one-page motion by attorney Christina Petros asks for the case to be moved “on the grounds that an impartial trial cannot be had in Brown County.”

In the alternative, it asks that a jury from outside the area be brought in to hear the case.

The motion does not cite any supporting documentation or argument for the motion, but says that will come “ from the affidavit that will be provided closer to the time of trial.”

Gray returns to court Thursday for a status hearing.
