NEW LONDON DUBLIN (WLUK) -- A band of mischievous leprechauns was spotted in New London Monday, changing the city's welcome signs to read "New Dublin" ahead of the annual St. Patrick's Day festivities.
The changing of four signs was part of Leprechaun Day, kicking off a week of events celebrating Irish heritage. Other events include Hooligan Day, with restaurants serving dinners of corned been and cabbage; Irish caroling; Family Entertainment Night; and Céili, featuring Irish music and dance. The week wraps up with a parade and Irish Fest.
"We love celebrating our Irish heritage, and it brings quite a bit of revenue to this area, quite a few establishments, it makes or breaks their year for our festivities," said Ryan Lanning, president of the Shamrock Club of New Dublin. "And you know what? It started, and we want to keep it going."
