FOND DU LAC (WLUK) -- Moraine Park Technical College is building for the future.

The college held a groundbreaking ceremony for its $12.8 million Automation, Innovation and Robotics, or AIR, Center Wednesday.

The building is one of four projects in a referendum totaling $55 million.

The manufacturing industry in the area represents 26% of the work force. Over the next 10 years, it's expected to be over 14,000 jobs in the area.

The president of Moraine Park, Bonnie Baerwald, says the support from the community has been outstanding.

"Very excited. We spent over two years planning this. Very excited that all of the voters in all of the 10 counties we represent voted in favor of this. People understand for technical and trade education in this community," she said.

The AIR center is expected to be completed in June of 2024, with students first utilizing the space in fall 2024.

The second project will likely occur in August.

The two additional projects will follow in the forthcoming years.
