Millions raised to fight poverty in Northeast Wisconsin
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Help came just in time for the holidays for 160 organizations around the area that fight poverty in their communities.
The Partnership of the Community Foundations based in Green Bay, Oshkosh and Appleton works with the U.S. Venture Golf Open to raise the money.
This year, $5.5 million is being spread among the organizations.
Foundation officials say this is the first time the amount of the grants exceeded the money raised by the golf outing.
"Some grants come and go and when the grant funds end so, too do those services," said Bay Area Workforce Program Operations Manager, Matt Valquette. "It's going to have a long-lasting permanent effect in our community."
Organizers say that without the grants, the nonprofits would not be able to fund all the resources they need.
