Military aircraft crews to gather at Volk Field for training

CAMP DOUGLAS (WLUK) -- Late mornings might be a little louder for people in many parts of Wisconsin as Volk Field hosts a military training exercise.

The Wisconsin National Guard says the annual Northern Lightning Counterland training is scheduled for May 14-25.

Units scheduled to participate include the 128th Air Refueling Wing from Milwaukee; 115th Fighter Wing from Madison; 128th Air Control Squadron from Volk Field; 114th Fighter Wing from Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and 88th Fighter Training Squadron from Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.

Aircraft involved include the F-16 Fighting Falcon, T-38 Talon, KC-135 Stratotanker and E-2C Hawkeye.

The National Guard says aircraft activity is expected to increase between 10 a.m. and noon each day. Those in Adams, Brown, Calumet, Clark, Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Jackson, Marathon, Marquette, Monroe, Outagamie, Portage, Sauk, Sheboygan, Trempealeau, Waupaca, Winnebago and Wood counties may notice aircraft or aircraft noise.
