Marinette, WI and Menominee, MI finalists for 'Small Business Revolution'
MENOMINEE, Mich. (WLUC) - The twin cities of Marinette, Wisconsin and Menominee, Michigan are among the final ten in the running to appear on the show Small Business Revolution. The show, which runs on Hulu, stars Amanda Brinkman and Ty Pennington. Each season they pick 6 businesses from one town and using half a million dollars help revitalize them.
"What they really bring is the expertise and the energy to the community to help us pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps in terms of what do you do to go from where we are, to the future," said Keith Killen, owner of Mighty Pet in Menominee.
More than 12,000 towns were nominated for this fourth season of the show, and for the first time, a finalist is actually two cities competing jointly. Representatives from both Menominee and Marinette wouldn't have it any other way.
"This is a once in a lifetime chance for us to do something as one community, ignoring the river that separates Wisconsin and Michigan," said Kim Brooks, proprietor of Main Street Antique Mall in Marinette.
They will now move onto the next round of the competition, and they need the public's support to make it to the top 5.
"Go onto your favorite social media platform and share #MyMarinetteMenominee with your stories about what you love about our community," said Brooks.
The top 5 will be announced in early February, at which point there will be a fan vote for the winner of the competition. Even if they don't get picked, this coalition of small business owners is going to keep working together.
"This is a trajectory that we're on, we have a lot of momentum and we're not going to stop now," said Brooks.
