FLORENCE (WLUK) -- A Florence man drowned in Fisher Lake after he was pulled under water by a cinder block, deputies say.

Just before 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, witnesses say a 39-year-old man was swimming in the lake when he tried to move a cinder block on a raft, about 30 feet from the dock.

The cinder block was attached to a buoy and a rope.

Witnesses say the man's foot became entangled in the rope and he was pulled under.

Emergency responders were able to free his foot from the rope and bring him to shore.

Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
