Travis Berndt (Outagamie Co. Jail)

APPLETON (WLUK) – The man convicted in connection with a 2016 fatal crash was booked into the Outagamie County jail Tuesday night after skipping his sentencing hearing last week.

Travis Berndt, 24, was convicted in September of knowingly operate a vehicle without a valid driver’s license causing death for the May 14, 2016 crash which killed Jamie Jackson.

Berndt was scheduled to appear in court Nov. 28 for sentencing but did not appear, so a warrant for his arrest was issued, according to court records.

Berndt was arrested by sheriff’s deputies Tuesday, according to jail records. He was in court Wednesday afternoon, where his sentencing was rescheduled for February 1.

The State Patrol said Berndt was driving at a high rate of speed, exited the I-41 off-ramp at Highway 55 in Kaukauna, lost control, and the vehicle rolled several times. Jackson was killed and two others were injured.
