Man charged in Appleton bar stabbing
Update: A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 14.
APPLETON (WLUK) -- A man was charged Wednesday for allegedly stabbing another man at an Appleton bar.
Luis Avila, 43, is charged with first-degree reckless injury and carrying a concealed knife.
Police were called to Dieter’s Bar on Northland Avenue Saturday for a fight.
According to the criminal complaint, Avila and two friends were at the bar when a man bumped into one of Avila's friends and a fight broke out.
There were about eleven people involved in the fight, the complaint says.
When police arrived on scene, they say they found one man stabbed in the back and another man stabbed in the stomach. The man who was stabbed in the back was bleeding internally and had to have a lung removed at the hospital, the complaint states.
Authorities say the man who was stabbed in the stomach told them he believes Avila or one of his two friends stabbed him but isn't sure who.
After the fight, Avila told his girlfriend he stabbed a guy in the back during the fight and threw the knife on the roof of the bar before leaving, the complaint reads.
Police later recovered the knife from the roof.
Avila was expected to appear in Outagamie County court Wednesday afternoon.
