BROWN COUNTY (WLUK) -- Five area legislators are asking for federal aid to improve a stretch of State Highway 29.
The project proposes to replace the J-turns with full interchanges at County Highways VV and U along State Highway 29 as well as adding sidewalks, on-street bicycle lanes and roundabouts at the on-ramps and nearby intersections.
The federal aid would come from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Discretionary Grant.
The legislators behind the request are: Assembly Majority Leader, Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna), Senator Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay), Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), Representative Gary Tauchen (R-Bonduel) and Representative David Steffen (R-Howard).
"The Brown County area is one of the fastest growing in Wisconsin. With businesses like Green Bay Packaging and Foxconn expanding and locating in the area, improvements to our infrastructure are more important than ever," Rep. Nygren said.
Rep. Steffen said the changes would also make the intersections easier and safer.
