FOND DU LAC (WLUK) -- Nearly six months after a domestic violence incident that spurred a national search, a man accused of attempted murder has been arrested for his alleged role in the incident.
The Fond du Lac Police Department reported Friday that 46-year-old Lataye Smith was arrested earlier this week in Chicago. Smith is now awaiting extradition to Wisconsin.
On Jan. 7, Fond du Lac police responded to an apartment in the 100 block of S. Main Street around 3:30 a.m. after receiving notice of a domestic violence incident.
When police arrived, they found that a 39-year-old woman had managed to escape the incident but not before being cut with a knife several times on her neck and arms. The woman was hospitalized for significant but non-life-threatening lacerations.
Police say Smith fled from the area quickly after the incident. On Jan. 18, a nationwide extraditable warrant was issued for attempted first degree intentional homicide.
The Fond du Lac Police Department says no further information is being released at this time.
