Harvey dogs at OAHS ready for adoption next week

OSHKOSH (WLUK) -- The Oshkosh Area Humane Society says the eight dogs it took in from hurricane-ravaged Texas should be ready for adoption next week.

A total of 56 dogs were flown into Appleton International Airport Monday; 48 of those dogs went to the Fox Valley Humane Association and eight went to OAHS.

"The dogs transported to Wisconsin are dogs that were in shelters already available for adoption. Or they are animals who were voluntarily surrendered by their owners during or after the hurricane. By moving them out we are helping open kennels in Texas for the displaced animals who have not yet been reunited with their families,” said OAHS Executive Director Joni Geiger.

Shelter officials say the dogs have been vaccinated and will be evaluated medically and behaviorally before next week. Some of the dogs will also need to be spayed or neutered before going home with their new families.
