Billy Joel to play Lambeau Field this summer
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- As FOX 11 reported last week, one of the best selling artists of all time is coming to Lambeau Field.
You may know him as the "Piano Man" or simply, Billy Joel.
Ticket prices are estimated to cost between $50 and $140, according to concert promoter Live Nation. You can buy tickets Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.
A presale for American Express cardholders begins Monday.
Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy also has a love for the singer-songwriter's music. He talked about the artist Wednesday after announcing Joel will headline the 2017 summer concert at Lambeau. If you'd like to watch the full announcement, press play on the video below and skip ahead to 28:43.
"I saw Billy Joel. It was one of the first concerts I ever went to was when I was a senior in college. He played at Colgate University. Times were different then. He wasn't the Billy Joel he is now but he certainly was a star at that time," said Murphy.
He and the president of Live Nation-Chicago, Jason Wright, talked about the Grammy Award winner's popularity.
"It was really a sense that he would be a very good fit for our fans here and he's got, like we said, he's got such a broad appeal," Murphy said.
"Billy's an artist for multi-generations," said Jason Wright.
County music star Kenny Chesney is the most recent artist to perform at Lambeau.
So, why didn't the Packers choose another Country artist?
"There's only a limited number of artists that can fill a stadium like Lambeau Field. We're really excited about Billy Joel. Obviously it's very different, I think he appeals to a very different crowd than Kenny Chesney. I think people are going to be excited and hopefully ticket sales will go well," Murphy said.
Besides selling more than 150 million records, Joel is now an NFL owner.
"In honor of this upcoming concert, we have made Billy Joel an official shareholder of the Green Bay Packers," Murphy said.
Thanks to Joel's upcoming visit, the Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates a $6 million economic impact on the area.
"Billy's popularity is international so I'm sure we'll have many visitors coming from many different places," said Brad Toll, President and CEO of the Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Joel is scheduled to perform Saturday, June 17 at 8 p.m.
FOX 11 also created a poll on Facebook and we want to know, what's your favorite Billy Joel song? So far, "Piano Man" is the popular choice.
