ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WLUK) -- The Ashwaubenon Public Safety officer who was hit by an SUV last month was released from the hospital, officials say.

In a semi-private gathering, Officer Brian Murphy, was greeted and upon release by dozens of public safety officers, 911 dispatchers, family and friends Thursday.

Public safety vehicles also escorted Officer Murphy to his home.

Officer Murphy has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries since July 22 when he was struck by a vehicle on I-41 near Waube Lane.

The driver of the SUV, 28-year-old Kalin McGuire of Greenleaf, is charged in connection with the crash.

Police say she had been drinking before she got behind the wheel.

McGuire is due back in court Friday.
