GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A team of officers picked up a different set of tools when they went out into the community Wednesday morning.

The Green Bay Police Department partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help build a home on Debra Lane for a deserving family.

Lt. Steve Mahoney with Green Bay police says the department wanted to do a project that would enhance the community.

In the past, officers helped with home repairs but this is the first time they are working to build a home by capping the foundation and building the sub-floor.

“It’s an awesome experience to partner with the citizens of Green Bay to give back to our community, various businesses have helped out by supplying us lunch so it’s just a good time working together with the community to make it a better place for people to live," Mahoney said.

Officials say they hope to have the home complete and ready for the family within the next three months.
