Gamblers unveil military jerseys and helmets at veteran pancake and porky breakfast
ASHWAUBENON (WLUK) -- The Green Bay Gamblers started a new tradition to honor area veterans.
The team held its first Pancake and Porky breakfast at Shopko Hall Thursday, offering a free meal to veterans and active military personnel.
The organization says it hopes to continue to offer the breakfast every year.
"The veterans and active members of the military give us the freedoms to play on Friday and Saturday nights so it’s our way to give back to every veteran here in Northeast Wisconsin," said Jason Habeck, media relations.
During the breakfast, the team also unveiled its military jerseys and helmets they will wear specially for its annual Military Night game.
The black and silver camo jerseys and helmets will feature famous quotes by military members.
After the Military Night game on Saturday, Dec. 8, the jerseys and helmets will be auctioned off, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to DAV.
"It’s hard each and every year to try to outdo yourself. The main goal with those jerseys is to raise as much money as we can for the DAV so we want to come up with a cool design but also pay tribute to every branch in the military," Habeck explained.
All veterans and active military personnel can attend the game for free. Tickets for everyone else are $9-$18 each.
The game has raised $118,000 for local veterans in six years.
