APPLETON (WLUK) -- Fox Valley Technical College is launching a new program to get more truck drivers on the road.
The initiative is training refugees and under-represented populations to earn a commercial driver's license.
The college started this after receiving a $1.67 million grant from the state.
The money is focused on getting long-term unemployed people to work.
"I have a husband who's a truck driver, and I used to go with him, so I've seen that, how he works, and sometimes, I see the challenge," said Asha Hirsi.
"I cannot wait to get behind the wheel. I think it would be a very exciting day."
The program started with 25 applicants, but officials may expand it because of high demand.
