APPLETON (WLUK) – The suspect in a fatal traffic crash made an initial court appearance Tuesday in Outagamie County court.

Blake Doxtator, 18, is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle for the Oct. 31 crash which killed Braxton Kasee, 13.

He was released on a signature bond. A preliminary hearing is set for May 31.

According to the criminal complaint, Doxtator and friends had been out trick-or-treating. He first claimed he hit a deer – but investigators found no evidence of that. Then he claimed he swerved to hit a deer. Others in the car, however, said they had been travelling very fast – a Snapchat showed them going 97mph – hit a bump and Doxtator lost control of vehicle. One of the other passengers said Doxtator told them to say a deer jumped out.

A volunteer firefighter, John Brocker, died of a heart attack while working the crash.
