APPLETON (WLUK) -- The full design of the Fox Cities Exhibition Center was revealed Tuesday morning in Appleton.

While the primary function of the downtown Appleton center is for exhibition space and meeting rooms, there's also 17,000 square feet that will be dedicated to an outdoor public plaza.

The design features a symbolic 82-foot tower as a landmark. It also incorporates nearby Jones Park.

Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna says the city is planning to renovate Jones Park to be timed with the opening of the expo center.

On Sept. 29, a groundbreaking is planned for the new facility. The exhibition center is expected to be ready and completed by the fall of 2017.

The project is funded by a hotel and motel room tax hike in 10 neighboring municipalities. The center will cost $31 million.

The center will be owned by the City of Appleton and managed by the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel.
