FOX 11, parent company and Salvation Army team up to help hurricane victims
(WLUK) -- An aerial view shows the extensive damage Hurricane Harvey brought to Houston.
With the city and some surrounding areas under water, rescuers are on hand to help people in need.
FOX 11 and our parent company, Sinclair Broadcast Group, is teaming up with the Salvation Army to help Hurricane Harvey victims by Sinclair Cares' "Standing Strong for Texas."
"Until they can actually assess what they need in terms of food, water and clothing, right now they need financial support basically just to help find these people and rescue the people," said Jeanne Stangel, director of business and resource development for the The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay.
Stangel says money can be donated to the Salvation Army's Green Bay office or online here.
"Anything that they're doing, we're asking them if they do a check, to make it out to the Salvation Army but then to note in the memo line that it's for Hurricane Harvey so we know when those monies come in because what we're doing is we're collecting then forwarding that down to the Atlanta office and they know those are restricted gifts that are strictly to help for hurricane relief," she said.
Stangel will bring that message to Good Day Wisconsin Friday morning.
If you'd like join our national effort, please bring your checkbook to FOX 11 (787 Lombardi Avenue) Friday, Sept. 1 and we'll be at the station to accept your donations (checks only) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Checks can be made out to "Salvation Army – Hurricane Relief," with "Sinclair Cares" in the memo.
"Northeast Wisconsin has always been a community where people care about each other and they care about people where there's really disaster needs and this is happening in Texas in the southern part of our country and people in Northeast Wisconsin are still looking for ways to help and contribute," said Jay Zollar, FOX 11 general manager. "So we're trying to find a way to organize this and help people to come together and find a way for people to help out."
Sinclair will match donations up to $100,000 nationally.
