Former union treasurer sentenced for embezzling
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A former union treasurer was sentenced in federal court for embezzling union funds.
Cheryl Angell, 59, of Kaukauna, was sentenced to 13 months in prison and was ordered to pay $98,711 in restitution to the United Steelworkers Local 2 union.
According to court documents, Angell embezzled nearly $100,000 from the union over the course of four years. Prosecutors say Angell admitted to writing 100 checks to herself, using a union credit card for personal expenses and depositing the proceeds of union checks into her personal account without union authorization. Angell spent a considerable portion of the funds at local casinos, prosecutors say.
Angell was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.
