FOND DU LAC (WLUK) – A former Ripon High School teacher was sentenced Monday to three years on probation for having a sexual relationship with a student.

Samantha Fitzpatrick, 29, was not sentenced to any jail or prison time by Judge Gary Sharpe, but she must register as a sex offender.

Fitzpatrick apologized in court before the sentence was issued.

She previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault of a student by a school staff member. Three other counts, including child enticement, were dismissed.

According to the criminal complaint, the male student was 16 at the time the encounters began. The victim told police he did not have a relationship with Fitzpatrick, though another said he discussed it. Phone records showed sexually explicit messages were sent by the two. Also, a friend of Fitzpatrick’s told police she admitted to the affair, the complaint states.

She resigned from her teaching position in May of 2017.
