Appleton business owner pleads guilty to violating federal tax law

    GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- An Appleton business owner pleaded guilty to violating federal tax law.

    Kurt Van Voorhis, 52, of Hilbert, appeared in federal court in Green Bay.

    Van Voorhis is the manager and operator of Ultimate Cleaning Limited, a commercial cleaning business.

    Prosecutors say between January 2012 to June 2016, Van Voorhis failed to pay the Internal Revenue Service more than $200,000 in payroll taxes that had been withheld from the wages of Ultimate Cleaning Limited employees.

    Van Voorhis also failed to file quarterly payroll tax returns during that time, court documents read.

    Van Voorhis faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 as well as having to pay the unpaid taxes.

    He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 2.
