KEWAUNEE COUNTY (WLUK) -- Dozens of mailboxes either knocked over, or destroyed.

"Now, we're going to have to go buy a new mailbox. I'm sure he can't deliver mail today. It's pretty smashed," explained Patricia Lambrecht.

Damage was found in the towns of Montpelier, Franklin and West Kewaunee. Authorities say it started around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Lambrecht lives off Sleepy Hollow Road in Franklin, "We didn't hear anything, there's a couple loud trucks that go by here. But I don't know."

"50 mailboxes approximately have been affected by this act of vandalism, as well as the wind shield of a truck," said Kewaunee County Sheriff, Matt Joski.

Joski says the department is looking at the possibility the damage was done by teenagers,"They are acts of immaturity. Typically, perpetrated by members of our community a little younger in age."

He says this is one of the largest spans of vandalism the area has seen in a while, "We have seen these but not to this extent, this definitely the most we've seen in one incident."

Joski says the vandal or vandals will face real consequences, "What we want is to send a message not only to this individual that this behavior needs to change. We want to send a message to future perpetrators that this will be not be tolerated."

Lambrecht says she hopes those responsible are caught. But for now, her focus is on replacing her mailbox, "Got to be taught a lesson, can't be damaging someone else's property."

Anyone with property damage or information can call the sheriff's department at 1-920-388-7108.
