KEWAUNEE COUNTY (WLUK) -- Prosecutors say they will release on Tuesday their findings in the fatal shooting of a man by a sheriff's deputy.

The Kewaunee County District Attorney's Office has called a news conference for Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Aug. 21 shooting of Tyler Whitmire. Officers had responded to the Town of Franklin for a report of a man threatening a woman and nearby residents with a knife. Whitmire was shot and killed, the sheriff's department has said, when he confronted officers.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation said Deputy Jamie A. Tlachac fired the fatal shot. Sgt. Dustin E. Smidle and Deputy Jordan D. Salentine of the sheriff's department, and Officer Brian D. Gale of the Kewaunee Police Department, were also involved, investigators said.

DCI wrapped up its investigation of the shooting Sept. 29 and forwarded the results to the district attorney's office. DA Andrew Naze will then make a decision on whether to charge any of the officers in the shooting.
