GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A string of compassion now hangs from a Green Bay Boys & Girls Club.
Art students at St. Norbert College in De Pere collaborated with staff and students at the Lutsey Unit Club to create prayer flags.
"This project was based off of Tibetan prayer flags, and our theme that we wanted to put together with them was based off compassion," explained SNC student Trevor Cornell. "So, with bringing these flags here to the Boys & Girls Club, especially using such a large group, we were really able to capture a ton of different descriptions of what each person found compassion to be."
After discussing compassion and its different forms with students in SNC Art Professor Katie Ries' service-learning class, the 2nd- through 4th-grade students drew their interpretations on a sheet of paper.
That paper was then brought back to the art studio, where SNC students digitally re-touched the designs before screen-printing them on the flags. Students at the Club then added their blessings and hopes to the flags.
When the breeze blows through, their prayers will be carried by the wind out into the world.
Another string of prayer flags hangs at SNC near the art building.
