DE PERE (WLUK) -- For the first time in 28 years, a local Memorial Day weekend event will have a new location.
In 2019, Celebrate De Pere will move from Voyageur Park on the city's east side, to the Brown County Fairgrounds on the city's west side.
Organizers say the move is due to the event's significant growth over the last few years.
The new location will allow the event to expand even more while still including crowd favorites such as carnival rides, concerts, the Sunday Collector Car Show and fireworks.
"So when we looked at the Brown County Fairgrounds, parking is plentiful over there, handicap access, it's mainly a flat property, so there were a lot of benefits for those logistical issues that we were really worried about," said Celebrate De Pere president, Jeff Tilkens.
Over the winter and into next year, the Brown County Fairgrounds will undergo renovations and improvements to prepare for the 2019 event.
No word on if De Pere's Memorial Day parade route will change. The parade typically starts in West De Pere, goes across the Claude Allouez Bridge and ends at Voyageur Park.
