CHILTON (WLUK) - The Calumet County Board will vote Sept. 19 on a plan to add a half-percent sales tax in the county.

The Administrative Services Committee recommended the plan which does not share any of the revenue with the municipalities on a 4-3 vote Tuesday, according to county administrator Todd Romenesko.

The tax - which amounts to one cent on a $2 purchase - would generate about $2.5-$3 million per year. Previous agendas have described the purpose as "to fund capital improvements and eliminate bond financing."

Kewaunee County added a sales tax April 1. Brown County will add a sales tax on Jan. 1, 2018. According to the state, the only other counties which do not impose the tax are: Manitowoc, Menominee, Outagamie, Racine, Waukesha and Winnebago.
