GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Blue kites being sold in our area are making a difference for children who have been neglected or abused.

Community members and law enforcement officials gathered downtown Monday to kick off the 7th annual Blue Kite campaign.

The event is sponsored by Family and Childcare Resources of N.E.W.

Throughout the month of April, a number of local businesses will be selling kites for $1.

The proceeds will go toward child abuse prevention programming in the area.

Officials say they're appreciative of the support they receive.

"We' have been really lucky to have the support of the community for our blue kite campaign for 7 years," said Paula Breese of Family & Childcare Resources of N.E.W.

The goal is to raise $4,932.

It represents the number of reports of suspected child abuse and neglect in Brown County.
