Bay Port students prepare for concert in New York City
SUAMICO (WLUK) -- Nearly 100 local high school students will show off their hard work in New York City.
The Bay Port High School Orchestra won a multi-level audition process for the opportunity to perform at the iconic Carnegie Hall.
The students have been rehearsing since August for the big show on June 22 for the Viennese Masters Orchestra Invitational.
Orchestra director, Audrey Nowak, says two other orchestras from across the country are playing in the concert but Bay Port is the only high school orchestra that made the cut.
Nowak says having the opportunity to play at Carneige Hall couldn't have been possible without the dedication of not only the students but the community as well.
"It’s amazing. The community has been wonderful. You really can’t do something like this without community support from the school board to principals to parents and the kids themselves," she said.
Before heading off to the Big Apple, students will play their 27-minute Carnegie Hall performance, free and open to the public, on Monday, June 18 at the Bay Port High School PAC at 7:00 p.m.
