Appleton man arrested, accused of displaying BB gun and machete in public
APPLETON (WLUK) -- An Appleton man was arrested Thursday after police received multiple reports of him waving around what looked like a semi-automatic handgun in public.
Police reported to City Center Plaza on N. Oneida Street around 1:00 p.m.
This caused several schools in the area to go on lockdown as a precautionary measure.
Upon arrival, police say the man, 21-year-old Dustin Bowker, had a BB gun in his possession and a long, sheathed machete on his left hip.
During questioning, Bowker told police he was carrying the BB gun because he didn't have room for it in his bag.
Bowker was taken into custody without incident and the school lockdowns were lifted.
Police are recommending a disorderly conduct charge and three counts of bail jumping against Bowker. He has not been formally charged.
