APPLETON, Wis. (WLUK) -- Two people were taken to the hospital after a stairway collapsed at an Appleton bar.

It happened around 1:50 a.m. Friday at The Durty Leprechaun, 343 W. College Ave.

Firefighters say the stairwell to a sub-basement broke away and collapsed, trapping three people.

Battalion Chief Joseph Strauss of the Appleton Fire Dept. says two of the people dropped between 20 and 25 feet.

Firefighters used a rope rigging system, along with an improvised anchor to lower rescue harnesses and get the people out. It took about an hour.

Two of the people suffered minor injuries. One of the people involved is the owner of the bar.
