GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A political newcomer is throwing his hat in the ring for Green Bay's mayoral race.

Nick Mortensen tells FOX 11 he's been meeting with business owners, community groups and current Mayor Jim Schmitt since early May.

"This is going to be a completely different candidacy than people are used to," said the former comedian.

"I'm doing my level best to find out what people want in a mayor and I've got a very forward thinking platform that centers around getting more out of our tax dollars by transitioning Green Bay to a smart city," Mortensen said in an email.

Mortensen joins Patrick Evans, Mark Steuer and State Rep. Eric Genrich, who have already announced their candidacies. Patrick Buckley says he will kick off his campaign on Tuesday.

Current Green Bay mayor Jim Schmitt announced last November he will not be running for a fifth four-year term.
