Oshkosh school district selects first diversity director
OSHKOSH (WLUK) -- The Oshkosh Area School District has found its next diversity leader.
District leaders are recommending Anthony Miller Jr. be Oshkosh schools' first director of diversity, equity and inclusion. The position was created in March.
Miller is currently manager of the Scholars for Success program at Fox Valley Technical College. He has previously worked for the Appleton and Milwaukee school districts. Miller earned a bachelor's degree in communication with an emphasis in African American studies, and a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
"I am humbled and honored to serve as the director of diversity, equity, and inclusion," Miller said in a news release. "I am committed to ensuring that every Oshkosh student feels seen, heard, and valued, and creating an educational environment that embraces the richness of our diverse community. I look forward to working together with students, staff, families, and the community to create a more inclusive future for all."
"Anthony brings extensive experience in fostering inclusive communities and empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds," superintendent Bryan Davis said in a news release. "His authentic ability to connect with students, families, and staff will play a pivotal role in enhancing our efforts to create a more equitable and inclusive school district. We are excited to embark on this journey and look forward to the transformative impact he will have in our schools, district, and community."
Miller's appointment must be approved by the full school board. A vote is set for Wednesday.
The position's annual salary was budgeted for between $120,000 and $140,000.
