MADISON (WLUK) -- Wisconsin COVID-19 metrics closed the work week by extending their streak of declines.
The state Department of Health Services reported 1,298 new confirmed cases on Thursday. The seven-day average fell to 1,371, its lowest level since Aug. 23. The average has fallen for each of the past 29 days, following the peak of the omicron variant surge.
Test positivity fell to a seven-day average of 7.8%. That was the lowest level since Oct. 27.
Deaths, however, crept up for a second straight day. The seven-day average increased to 15, with DHS reporting 12 new deaths on Thursday.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 1,374,651 total cases and 11,724 deaths in Wisconsin.
As of Friday, 63.8% of state residents had received at least one dose of vaccine, and 60.2% had completed the vaccine series.
Meanwhile, hospitalizations also fell. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 729 COVID-19 patients, the fewest since Aug. 19. Friday's count was 41 fewer than on Thursday and 323 fewer than a week earlier. There were 149 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, down nine in a day and 55 over a week.
In the Northeast region, there were 86 COVID-19 patients, 10 fewer than on Thursday and 46 fewer than a week earlier. Of those, 17 were in ICUs, down five in a day and 10 over a week. Fox Valley region hospitals had 50 COVID-19 patients, down one in a day and 26 over a week. Six of those were in ICUs, down one in a day and half the number there were a week earlier.
