Know your candidate: Republican Leah Vukmir, running for U.S. Senate

(WLUK) -- Leah Vukmir is one of two candidates on the ballot for U.S. Senate.

Vukmir currently represents the Brookfield area in the state Legislature, having first been elected to the Assembly in 2002. She was elected to the state Senate in 2010 and is currently assistant majority leader.

According to her website, Vukmir is a nurse who became involved in politics when she questioned her daughter's school about a reading program.


Vukmir's website spotlights her focus on military and veterans issues; her pro-life position; her support of gun rights; eradicating the Islamic State terror group; supporting police and emergency responders; her tough stance on illegal immigration; support of the U.S. Constitution; streamlining the tax code and reducing government spending; and repealing the Affordable Care Act.
