Know your candidate: Democrat Tony Evers, running for governor
(WLUK) -- Tony Evers is one of six candidates on the ballot for Wisconsin governor.
Evers is currently superintendent of the state Department of Public Instruction, having been elected in 2009, 2013 and 2017. According to his biography on the DPI's website, he began his career as a teacher in 1976 and held several local and regional administrative positions before being elected to lead the DPI.
Evers' website highlights his focus on public education; infrastructure and transportation; health care costs; protecting the environment; economic development; racial equality; criminal justice reform; voting rights; women's health; LGBTQ rights; workers' rights; a $15 minimum wage; legalizing medical marijuana; non-partisan redistricting; campaign finance reform; rural and agricultural issues; and supporting renewable energy.
